Mood boards are a great way to get all of your ideas into one place. This way you can see some trends between elements of design that you like. This is especially helpful when planning a wedding because it’s your day and your vision. If you didn’t hire a wedding planner and are doing all of the planning yourself, this is especially helpful to nail down what you want to do and how you want things to look.
You can create a mood board with editing software like Photoshop or the more user-friendly classic – Pinterest. Pinterest has it’s advantages because this website already has a large database of wedding-friendly content. So many photographers and past couples have already uploaded inspiring photos from their own weddings for you to look through and draw inspiration from. I know we heavily relied on Pinterest for our own wedding and I’m so glad this helpful tool exists.
You might be thinking, okay how do I start this? A good rule of thumb is to start your search by looking into seasons – ie. “winter wedding” “summer wedding” “fall wedding” etc. This will get you started by looking at images that may be close to what yours will look like during that time of year. If you’re playing off of a theme from the season (pumpkins in fall) this will surely give you some inspo. After you search the season, I would start looking into a color scheme and then go crazy from there. After you keep pinning or saving images, you’ll start to see some patterns and will be able to narrow down your wedding-day vibe.
You can use this mood board and newfound wedding vision to hire vendors that match your aesthetic. Different vendors have uniques styles and so keep chatting until you find the ones for you!
